Mark your calendars for our UI Alumni and Friends Flash Writing Contest—a free, online short story competition for a variety of age groups. You don’t have be an Iowa Writers’ Workshop graduate or an accomplished author to join in the fun.
The contest begins on Friday, Jan. 17, 2024, at 4 p.m. CST, and runs through Sunday, Jan. 19, 2024, at 4 p.m. CST. At the contest's start, we'll provide a genre, character, and specific object to incorporate into your story. The rest is up to you!

Drawing Salon with Robert Caputo

The Drawing Salon focuses on drawing artworks from the museum's collection. Each session will focus on a different artwork. The sessions will begin with an introduction and discussion of the selected work. Participants will be encouraged to pursue their own visions and to take inspiration from the artworks in the gallery.
Pencils and sketchbooks/paper are the only artmaking materials allowed in the galleries. The museum has golf pencils with erasers and clipboards for participants to use...

The Stanley Museum of Art will launch its National Endowment for the Arts Big Read program on Jan. 20, 2025, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
This event features a community wide reading of the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison. Pick up a free copy of Beloved at 12 pickup locations across Iowa City between Jan. 20 and Feb. 12, 2025.

OT & MP Organizational Meeting

1/21 at 1:30 p.m. The two weekly Tuesday seminars, OT & MP have their Organizational meeting in 309 Van, the Physics building, on 1/21 at 1:30 p.m.
This semester's weekly seminars, Mathematical Physics, MP; and Operator Theory OT, will resume, and will be at the usual times, back to back, 1:30 for OT and 2:30 for MP on Tuesdays, and place (309 Van, the Physics building). Everyone is welcome.
